The Specimen Collector collects, labels and delivers urine and blood specimens. This person must remain on-call, 24 hours a day, and be available to collect specimens at the site of the client as the need arises.

Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with nursing station log; bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel.

Verifies patient by reading patient identification.

Perform collection of specimen, at the client’s site, for drug and alcohol testing. In cases, same sex observed collections will be mandated by state law.

Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures.

Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.

Maintains quality results by following department procedures and testing schedule; recording results in the quality-control log; identifying and reporting needed changes.

Be available, on-call, 24 hours a day, to perform on-site collections.

Requirements
Passing grade in week-long training course for specimen collection.
Certification for Federal Drug and Alcohol collections.
Unexpired Minnesota driver’s license.
One year experience working with specimen collections.
Previous Medical Assistant experience and/or certification is preferred.
Will perform collections at MOH locations and/or at various client locations.

Must be available from 7a - 5p with variable start times. Will have opportunity for evening and weekend call.
